Taylors Hill – Deltota

Situated 29km from the cultural capital of Sri Lanka, Taylor’s Hill is in the heart of the Hewaheta Valley surrounded by towering trees. The elegantly refurbished hotel was built by British tea planter Dominic Elwes over a century ago and mirrors an English country manor in its décor and architecture, while the gardens remain a haven of landscaped beauty.

Touching on its colonial past, the manor is host to five en suite bedrooms all individually designed using furniture handed down through the generations, giving it a sense of grandeur. The charmingly furnished drawing room houses an original fireplace and provides the perfect spot to unwind in the evenings with a book and glass of wine before a traditional Sri Lankan curry in the formal dining room.

There is plenty to keep guests entertained during their stay at Taylor’s Hill; amid the acres of manicured lawns and gardens guests can embark on an adventure cycling the mountain trails of the estate or trekking in the nearby Kondagala range. A game on 150 year old restored billiards table with the original billiard balls and cues adds to a sense of history and is a wonderful way to relive an authentic colonial tradition.
