About us

My first visit to Sri Lanka started with a chance encounter at the post box in Berkeley, California,USA in 1978 with a visiting scholar named Prof. Seneviratna. He came from a mysterious placed called Ceylon (Sri Lanka) which I knew almost nothing about at the time. That encounter lead to a lifelong friendship and my first trip to Sri Lanka in 1979.  Visiting Sri Lanka then was an adventure of a life time. The Seneviratna’s welcomed me into their home and to their spectacular country like I was family.  When I arrived at their home near Kandy, they were not even sure which day I was actually coming.  There was no internet or cell phone service and regular phone service was even very limited for international calls.  A lot has changed since then except the warmth and genuiness of the Sri Lankan people. Unfortunately, my good friend Prof. Seneviratna, who I met in California so long ago, has passed.  But the many wonderful memories of my visits to Sri Lanka and it’s many cultural sites, animal and wildlife sanctuaries, colorful and joyous wedding celebrations and major cities from Jaffna in the north to Hambantota in the South are with me forever.

Because of our desire to share the Sri Lankan travel experiences with other fellow travelers and adventurers, we created Zeylan Tours & Travels. Udayana and Charu Seneviratne, the sons of Dr. Seneviratne, and I are combining our extensive knowledge of Sri Lanka, its culture and heritage with over 40 years of my worldwide travel experience.  We are offering you our expertise and services to create an unforgettable travel experience on your visit to this beautiful island.
