Trincomalee

257 km. from Colombo and situated on the east coast of the island, Trincomalee is the finest natural deep-water harbour in the world. Its beaches are excellent and all kinds of water sports are available including snorkeling, sailing etc.. Whale watching is also possible during the months of April to September.Trincomalee was described by Admiral Lord Nelson as the finest harbour in the world when he visited aboard HMS Seahorse in 1770. It is the ideal resort between April and November and a must for beach-addicts. The Dutch fort is still the centre of administration. Bathing in the hot water springs at Kanniya is very beneficial for your health. The Koneswaran Hindu temple is located within the Dutch fort.

Sri Lanka has over one thousand six hundred kilometres of beautiful, palm-studded beaches as well as warm, pure seas and colourful coral reefs. To beach lovers parts of Sri Lanka have their seasons, with the south west coast most popular from November to April and the east coast best from April to September. So it is important to plan your beach holiday on the right coast at the right time.
